The Curriculum: Da Vinci Life-Skills Bridge Class (For ages 9–10)

A stepping-stone into the Future Human School learning journey. This programme helps families stay together in their educational path while giving younger learners the support they need to grow with confidence.

Why “Bridge”?

The Bridge Class isn’t just a younger group - it’s a transitional programme designed to help children aged 9–10 build the skills, confidence and mindset they need for the Future Human School experience.

It’s now open to all students making it easier for families to stay connected through shared routines, rhythms and values inside the Future Human School community.

The focus is on developing key skills:

  •  Communication

  •  Collaboration

  •  Confidence

  •  Self-management

Students take part in many of the same experiences as older learners but with age-appropriate adaptations. For example projects can by differentiated by:

  • Process (how they engage)

  • Product (what they create)

  • Support (the guidance they receive)

There’s a balance of shared learning with the older group and separate time for skill-building, play and reflection with their own peers.

The Bridge Programme is follows the same project pathways and is designed to strengthen your child’s core skills in Maths and English, ensuring they’re fully equipped to engage with the academic and creative challenges of the 11–16 Core Programme.

What does the day look like?

Bridge students follow the same overall flow as the main FHP day, including:

  • 🌞 BE Time – Morning and afternoon check-ins (some with their peer group)

  • 🧠 Project-Based Learning – Learning through real-world challenges alongside older students, with simplified or supported approaches

  • ➕ Maths & English Skills Time – Taught in smaller, age-specific groups

  • 🎨 Creative Play & Exploration – Time to unwind, imagine, and connect with peers

  • 🌿 Friday ‘Village Day’ – Mixed-age learning in the wider community, with field trips, guest mentors and collaborative projects

While Bridge students are part of the wider FHS community, they’ll also spend time in their own peer group for key parts of the day—ensuring the right balance of connection, challenge and support.

Is the Bridge Class right for your child?

This programme is a great fit for children aged 9–11 who are curious, communicative, and ready to grow. To thrive in this setting, students should be:

  • Comfortable with English
Able to read fluently, understand written information, present their ideas and join in group discussions

  • Growing in self management skills
Showing increasing independence, focus, and responsibility

  • Ready to collaborate
Willing to share, listen, and work with others

Take a look at this micro project to assess your child's readiness to read, process and present.

We’d love to support all learners but our current resources mean we can only accept students who meet this readiness. Over time, we hope to expand our capacity and welcome a wider range of learning needs.
