Worldschooling in Bali: How a School Term Fits the Journey
Bali has quietly become one of the world’s great worldschooling hubs. Affordable living, a rich culture to learn from and a critical mass of like-minded families mean that at any moment, hundreds of travelling families are calling the island home - for a month, a season or a year.
With both founding families coming from a worldschooling background, we personally know the freedom is one of the biggest appeals for people choosing this way of life. But the most common struggle, as we know from first-hand experience for their children was continuity: friendships that reset every few weeks, projects that never quite finish and children who crave a crew of their own.
Why a term beats a drop-in
Many worldschooling families use short drop-in programmes as they travel and they have their place but we designed Future Human School’s enrolment around a different unit: the term. Eight to ten weeks is long enough for a child to properly land - to move from newcomer to insider, to take a real project from first idea to public celebration and to build friendships with roots.
That’s why our minimum enrolment is one full term, with a two-week trial period for new students. Families can join for a single term, a semester, or the full year. Each term is a complete story: students finish with at least two completed projects, a portfolio, and a final presentation to the community.
What a term looks like
Each term follows one project pathway: Entrepreneurship, Production, Food, or Multiverse Gaming, alongside Personal Exploration Projects where students pursue their own passions with mentor support. Daily literacy and numeracy keep academic foundations strong, and the Da Vinci Life-Skills curriculum maps everything to the subjects of the UK national curriculum.
Village Days are a regular highlight of each term, bringing field trips, guest experts, workshops and celebrations to be shared with families and the wider Ubud community. For worldschooling parents, Village Day doubles as your own community on-ramp and many of our closest school families arrived in Bali knowing nobody.
Can worldschooling families join Future Human School for one term?
Yes, one term is our minimum enrolment, designed precisely for travelling families who want depth without a multi-year commitment.
What ages do you take?
Ages 10–16, across our Bridge and Core Programmes.
Do children need to have followed a curriculum before?
No. Our mentors meet each child where they are; the two-week trial period helps everyone confirm the fit. There is a minimum level of written and spoken English required which can be discussed as part of the enrolment process. Please get in touch for more information.
